Oscars to Screenwriters - Write Whatever You Want!!

The historic win of Jordan Peele right on the heels of Ryan Coogler's $800 million success story is sending a clear message to Hollywood.

Audiences are ok with highly original stories!

This year's Best Picture went to "The Shape of Water" an odd fish tale. Last year's winner was "Moonlight" though it was briefly thought that "Lala Land", another very original movie musical had won.

So it looks like open season for undersea dramas, comedies, musicals, quirky romances, and pseudo-horrors that veer far from the Hero's Journey template.

So how to cash in?

1. Dust off that script that everybody said "sounds weird". It will catch the eye of every agent in Hollywood.

2. Your pitch should include winning catch phrases like "an unlikely hero", "set in a landscape as breathtaking as Wakanda", and/or "a really, unusual creature - half-unicorn, half-human, looking for love" .

3. Mix Genres. The taboo is officially broken so why not try for a "Romantic-Horror" or "Comedy-Thriller."

Write it now while Hollywood has an eye out for a billion dollar difference!
